What Makes TMJ Massage Different?
This isn’t your average massage. TMJ work focuses on the intricate muscle system involved in chewing, speaking, and clenching—often including the masseter, temporalis, and pterygoid muscles. Your therapist uses highly targeted techniques to release tightness both externally and (when appropriate) inside the mouth. Every step is done with care and collaboration to make the experience effective and safe.
TMJ Massage Is Great For:
✓ Jaw pain or tension
✓ Clicking, locking, or limited jaw movement
✓ Clenching and grinding (bruxism)
✓ Tension or stress-related headaches

Is it safe?
Yes—when performed by a trained and licensed therapist, TMJ massage is safe and highly effective. Intraoral techniques (if included) are done with medical gloves and only after your full consent. Your therapist will explain each step and check in regularly. As with any treatment, it’s always a good idea to consult with your dentist or healthcare provider if you’re unsure whether this is the right therapy for you
What to Expect During Your Session
Check-In & Communication
We’ll start by reviewing your symptoms and history. You’ll have time to ask questions and let your therapist know what areas are bothering you most.Comfortable Positioning
You’ll remain fully clothed and reclined comfortably on the table. The therapist will work with your head, neck, jaw, and shoulders, using a combination of gentle pressure and specific release techniques.Intraoral Option
If deeper relief is needed, your therapist may gently access the inner jaw muscles with gloved hands. This is always optional and only done with your clear, informed consent.Targeted Relief
The goal is to reduce tightness in the small but powerful muscles around the jaw while supporting the neck and shoulders that often carry referred tension.Your Comfort Comes First
TMJ work can be intense, but it should never feel unsafe or overwhelming. Your therapist will adjust techniques and pressure based on how your body responds.
After Your Massage
Take your time after the session—drink water and gently stretch your jaw and neck. You may feel sore for a day or two, especially after intraoral work, but you should also notice greater ease in jaw movement and less overall tension. Let us know how you feel so we can tailor future sessions for continued progress.
