The Overthinker’s Guide to Massage
Let’s be real—if you’re reading this, your brain might already be trying to manage three hypothetical scenarios, overanalyze this headline, and calculate how awkward it might be to lie silently on a table while a stranger touches your shoulders. (Hi. You’re in the right place.)
Anxiety isn’t just in your head—it shows up in your muscles, your breath, your digestion, your jaw, and your sleep. You might not even realize how much tension you're holding until something finally gives you permission to let it go.
Massage helps your body do exactly that—quiet the alarms, soften the bracing, and remind your nervous system that it’s safe to slow down.
It’s 1:56 a.m. and you’re awake googling things like “massage etiquette” or “how weird is it to cry during a massage.” You’re wondering what to say, what to wear, and whether or not you’re going to somehow mess up lying still. We get it. That’s why we made this list: a long, overthinker-approved, 100% judgment-free guide to the most common first-time massage anxieties. You’re not overthinking it—we’ve heard all of these before. And we’ve got you.
“What should I wear?”
Whatever feels comfortable. Just come in cozy clothes. No one’s judging your outfit or your laundry day.
“What if I forget my words when I walk in?”
Totally okay. Our front desk team already knows who you are and why you’re here—we’re expecting you. We might just need to confirm your name. You don’t have to perform or explain anything. We’ve got you.
“Do I have to talk during the session?”
Nope. This time is yours. Some people chat, others are silent. We’ll follow your lead. You can also request a "silent appointment" if that makes things easier. We'll greet you, confirm anything we need to know, and then hold the rest of the session in quiet unless you initiate or we need your feedback about the massage. Total peace, no worries.
“What if I don’t know what pressure I like?”
That’s normal. We’ll check in, adjust, and make sure everything feels safe and comfortable.
“I feel self-conscious about my body.”
You’re not alone. Our focus is on helping you feel better. We use sheets and blankets to keep you covered and comfortable at all times.
“I’m not sure I can relax.”
That’s exactly why you’re coming in. You don’t have to show up already calm. We’ll help guide your system there, one breath at a time.
“Do I have to get undressed?”
Nope. You can stay fully clothed if that’s what feels best. Most clients undress to their comfort level—whether that’s removing everything under the sheet or leaving undergarments on. We always drape for modesty and only uncover the part of the body we’re working on, one area at a time.
“What if I fart?”
It happens sometimes. Muscles relax, your nervous system lets go, and your body does what it needs to. We won’t overreact or make it weird—we’re just here to support you.
“What if I forget to shave?”
We don’t care. Genuinely. It has zero impact on the quality of your massage. Come as you are.
“Will it be awkward?”
Not nearly as awkward as you’re imagining. We do this all day. Your body is not weird. Your anxiety is not weird. You’re allowed to be a human here.
“What if I have to pee halfway through?”
Tell us. We’ll pause. It happens all the time. Your comfort is the priority. We’ll step out and let you re-dress or you can throw on one of our robes for your convenience if you need to get up and use the restroom mid-session—no stress.
“What if I snore or drool?”
That’s a compliment to our work. Truly. You’re here to rest. We don’t judge your body’s way of letting go.
“What if I fall asleep and miss it?”
Your nervous system didn’t miss it. That rest is the point. You don’t have to be awake for your body to benefit.
“Can I keep my socks on?”
Yes. Always. And if you don’t want your feet touched at all, just tell us.
“What if I get emotional but don’t want to talk about it?”
You don’t have to explain. We’re trained to hold space, not probe. If you need silence, you’ll have it. If you want to talk, we can talk.
“Do I need to say anything when it’s over?”
Not unless you want to. You can talk, cry, nap, or just take your time getting off the table. No one’s rushing you.
“What if I accidentally fall asleep and then wake up and panic because I forgot where I am?”
It happens. You’ll be in a safe, quiet room with someone who expects nothing from you. We’ll gently check in if you seem disoriented. You’re safe here.
“What if I laugh at the wrong time or make a weird noise?”
Totally fine. We’ve heard it all. Laughter, sighs, gurgling stomachs, surprise sneezes—it’s just your body processing. You don’t have to manage that here.
“What if my brain won’t stop overthinking during the massage?”
That’s okay. It’s not a performance. You don’t have to be perfectly zen to benefit. Your body is still receiving care, even if your mind is along for the ride.
“What if I say something weird because I’m nervous?”
Then you’re officially human. No judgment. No spotlight. We’ve had full conversations about breakfast foods and birds. You're fine.
“Can I keep my eyes open?”
Yes. You can open, close, squint, or stare at the floor. You don’t have to perform “relaxed face.”
“What if I accidentally schedule during my period?”
Totally okay. We’re not phased. If you’re comfortable, we are. We keep complimentary sanitary pads and tampons in our spa’s bathroom. (And massage can actually help with cramps and tension.)
“What if I have B.O.?”
We encourage you to shower before your massage but understand sometimes that isn’t always possible. We have high-quality shower towelettes in our bathroom and spray deodorant available for your use.
“What if I accidentally drool and snore and talk in my sleep?”
Honestly? Triple points. That means your nervous system feels safe, and that’s the whole goal.
“What if I suddenly remember something I forgot to do mid-massage and it stresses me out?”
That happens. Your brain might try to bolt even when your body is settling. We’ll help you stay grounded and return to the moment.
“What if I forget to take off my jewelry or smartwatch?”
No problem. We’ll help you remove anything that might get in the way, or just work around it.
“How do I know it’s clean?”
Great question. We use fresh sheets, blankets, and face cradle covers for every client. We also disinfect all surfaces, tables, and tools between every session. Cleanliness isn’t just a standard—it’s a promise.
“What if I accidentally make eye contact?”
You can close your eyes, look away, or keep them open—whatever makes you feel most at ease. No one’s grading your social cues here.
“What if I've read all of this and I still feel awkward?”
That’s okay too. You don’t have to be relaxed, graceful, or even completely sure this will help. Just show up. We’ll meet you where you are.
“What if I have a question you didn’t answer here?”
Please reach out to our front desk team at (321) 987-0041 (you can call or text us). No overthinking question is too awkward—we promise. If you're wondering about it, someone else has too.
